Master carver and scrimshaw artist Fred Kingeekuk, notable for his high quality carvers, has deemed this work his masterpiece.  This intricately carved tusk displays the importance of the subsistance hunt to Yupik culture.  The humans and animals are all part of a complex system that, missing even one component, could come toppling down.  At the apex is a harpoon tip, based on the designs of the Old Bering Sea.  At the bottom are those charged with carrying the culture forward.  Their culture is built upon the traditions set by the ancestors, and carried by future generations.
