Drummer DollView more work by Beulah Ottillian
Ottillian is a prolific doll maker. She often makes dolls that are engaged in various activities, such as drumming in this piece. The jacket is a traditional "rain jacket" made from walrus intestine. The drum is carved from walrus ivory with an intestine covering. The mukluks are made in the traditional style out of mukluk seal skin and seal fur. The head band and parka trim are beaver fur. The dolls face is ivory with baleen inlaid eyes. The doll is mounted on an old seal vertebrae.
