Hunter with Harpoon and Seal Skin BagView more work by Fred Nayokpuk
Nayokpuk's work is consistently of the highest quality. In this piece, he's carved from a light colored, solid whale jawbone and inlaid with ivory and baleen. The hunter wears a seal skin bag on his back to hold hunting implements and tools. Nayokpuk uses the natural shape of the bone to carve the arm raised up with a harpoon ready to strike.
