Swimming Humpback WhaleThe form and motion in this piece is exceptional. Even the bumps on the whale's snout, carved out of baleen, are raised much as they would be in nature. The eyes are made from fossil walrus ivory. The stand is baleen and the base is carved from dense walrus skull bone. I often sit with this piece and slowly turn it on its stand in en effort to fully appreciate the subtle, graceful form of this carving.
