WalrusView more work by David Alvanna
Carved from a piece of walrus ivory found under water, this stylized, medallion-shaped piece exhibits the inherent beauty in these tusks that are colored by nature after many years under the waves. The "underwater" ivory, also called blue ivory or beach ivory, is found when divers sift through the sand on the ocean floor. The unique coloring from the sediment is evident in this piece in the rich blue coloring on the side of the walrus.
