Whale Shaman Mask
View more work by Jerome Saclamana
Saclamana often splits his masks with a baleen strip, placing an animal on one side and a face with human features on the other. This combination shows the union of the human and animals spirits. The human half of this mask resembles a traditional King Island dance mask, wherein the combination of human animal traits is a cultural tenet. The mask is set on a piece of whalebone and adorned with ptarmigan feathers.
